Oxygen Therapy for COPD

What is COPD?

COPD is a common lung disease that mainly occurs in middle-aged or elderly people. It is actually a general term used for various progressive lung diseases, including chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis and chronic airway obstruction. The common feature of these diseases is irreversible airflow limitation. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease will experience symptoms such as persistent cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, recurrent chest infections, and chest tightness. In the later stages of the disease, these symptoms can also affect the quality of life, mood and life expectancy.

How to diagnose COPD as early as possible?

Patients with COPD often have no obvious discomfort at the beginning of the onset. Many patients often seek medical help only when they have severe breathing difficulties but by this time the disease has progressed to a more serious level. To prevent this from happening, you can self-check the frequency of coughing, whether there is sputum in your throat, whether you sometimes feel chest tightness and shortness of breath, whether you often smoke. Consult a doctor in time and perform a lung function test, which helps in the early diagnosis of COPD and early treatment.

How does oxygen therapy help reduce COPD symptoms?

If you have persistent COPD symptoms that have seriously affected your life, you can improve your symptoms by using oxygen concentrator , which can provide you with extra oxygen, make your breathing easier, and keep you more active. Oxygen is a necessary substance to maintain human life. The use of oxygen to treat diseases and promote health has become a common treatment and health care method. How can oxygen therapy help us improve COPD?

COPD patients usually have restricted airflow due to increased mucus and airway inflammation. When airflow is restricted, it reduces the level of oxygen you breathe in, and you may feel tired and short of breath at this time. Oxygen therapy can help you increase the level of oxygen you breathe in and increase the oxygen content of your blood. Long-term oxygen therapy helps minimize the debilitating symptoms of COPD, including fatigue, wheezing, chest tightness, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Oxygen therapy can also help patients avoid the serious health consequences of disease, including the risk of heart failure.

What is the benefits of oxygen therapy?

Oxygen therapy provides you with cleaner and healthier breathing. Patients with COPD lack oxygen and are very sensitive to air quality. Oxygen therapy can help you maintain clean and healthy breathing and is one of the best preventive measures to avoid deterioration. It can reduce the energy you consume when breathing, so that your lung inflammation can heal better.

Oxygen therapy can improve your sleep quality and improve your symptoms of dyspnea. Patients with COPD have poor sleep quality at night and usually suffer from sleep disturbances. Patients will have difficulty breathing during the night, which causes the patient to wake up frequently and have difficulty falling asleep. This will reduce the overall sleep time and sleep quality. When patients sleep interruption and lack of sleep, it will have a negative impact on concentration, memory, judgment and mood, and make you feel very tired during the day. While equipped with a home oxygen concentrator can help you inhale enough oxygen during sleep, you can stay asleep and not be interrupted. Adequate sleep can improve your mood and bring you a full mental state.

How to prevent and alleviate COPD?

Smoking is the main cause of COPD. If you smoke, try to quit. COPD is a progressive disease, and smoking cessation can alleviate the progression of COPD.

Oxygen therapy can reduce breathing difficulties. Oxygen therapy can improve your quality of life and relax your mood. If you feel that your breathing has improved, you can tell your doctor. You may be able to reduce the time you spend on treatment.

Ask your healthcare provider how much physical activity you can do. Physical exercise can strengthen muscles, help you breathe and improve your overall health.

Took my continuous flow unit with me on a 8 day Cruise to the Western Caribbean and it was wonderful. Light enough for me to carry around and battery lasts a couple of hours or more. I carry an extra battery with me just in case. I love my unit. I keep it plugged in when I am in the living area and leave the big unit by my bed…. so no long tubing for me to trip over!
